With the growing number of businesses in the area, Havering Borough Council needed a secure depository for the two councils to be able to transfer files with the aim of maintaining the National Non-Domestic Rates database (NNDR) run by Havering BC on behalf of Barking and Dagenham BC.
Their Challenge
A review of their existing service offering identified the following areas of concern:
FTP-Stream Solution
FTP-Stream provided a solution which enabled Havering BC and Barking and Dagenham BC to manage the transfer of sensitive files such as local business receipts without high administration overheads. "The FTP-Stream was up and running in no time at all and is a simple tool for council staff to use - FTP-Stream was able to provide a half-way house between the two councils saving us from opening up a corporate firewall and compromising the security of files", explained Rob Leather, technical support manager at Havering Borough Council.
Unlike running in-house FTP which can be expensive, difficult to set up and manage, FTP-Stream - a hosted FTP solution can be implemented in a few minutes, with no additional software or start-up costs.
FTP-Stream is a professional FTP hosting solution providing fast file sharing using FTP software or any web browser. It has no transfer limits, provides encryption and worldwide coverage. The average uptime is 99.97 per cent.
FTP-Stream provides an SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) service, enabling Barking and Dagenham BC to batch transfer files to Havering BC that are encrypted to guarantee security. The SFTP allows Havering BC to receive cash receipts through the neutral cloud based system to be inputted into its NNDR database.
The councils now have a secure online file storage portal that both parties can trust. As Rob Leather sums up - "With sensitive financial information from local businesses needing to be shared between council offices, it was extremely important that an encrypted solution was introduced. The SFTP ensures that we do not have to worry about important financial information being leaked and getting into the wrong hands."
